Mahar of NSU recommended for federal, provincial elections
Office-bearers of various student unions have been recommended for the upcoming federal and provincial elections.
Leaders of Nepal Student Union (NSU), the sister wing of Nepali Congress (NC) and All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) close to CPN-UML have been recommended for the election whereas CPN (Maoist Center) affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) ANNISU (R) are not on the recommendation list.
NSU President Nain Singh Mahar has been picked by Nepali Congress Dadeldhura for the federal and provincial elections. He has been recommended under proportional representation system in the district that has only one House of Representative member constituency. Mahar was directly recommended from the district that has two provincial assembly constituencies.
Urmila Thapaliya, Vice-president of NSU, has been recommended from Dhading constituency -2, Nabin Rai from Okhaldhunga-1, Tej Baniya from Sindhupalchowk-2 from direct.
“More than 80 percent of NSU office bearers have been recommended for the upcoming elections,” Spokesperson UP Lamichhane told Setopati
Similarly, President of ANNFSU Nabina Lama is a direct candidate from Kavre-1 for the provincial election from UML. Lama was elected 22nd president of the ANNFSU.
UML has recommended ANNFSU leaders Radhika Khatiwada and Tulasiram Mainali, among others for the provincial assembly elections from Sarlahi constituency-1 and Jhapa constituency-4 respectively.
However, ANNISU (R) Chairman Ranjit Tamang was not in the recommendation for the upcoming elections. Tamang said that he had turned down the candidacy proposal for the elections to pave a way for other aspiring candidates.
He further said that no leaders from his organization have been recommended for the elections.
