Ex-ministers Rai, Acharya claim candidacy for CM post from UML in Province 1
The former Minister for Information and Communication Technology Sherdhan Rai and the former Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Bhim Acharya have claimed the post of chief ministers of the Province No. 1 from CPN-UML.
The Standing Committee meeting of the party has recommended the leaders for the provincial election. Rai has been recommended from Bhojpur constituency -2 whereas Acharya from Sunsari-1.
Talking to Setopati, both the candidates have said that they are contesting the state assembly election to be elected as the chief ministers of the province.
Rai is a leader close to UML chairman KP Sharma Oli whereas Acharya is close to UML leader Madhav Nepal. Acharya is the coordinator of Province No.1 and Rai is the joint coordinator.
“I am taking part in the election to be elected as chief minister of the province,” Rai said, “Although the party has not taken an official decision, informal discussion over the issue has been held. I have been preparing as per the discussion.”
Rai was the spokesperson of the UML-led government.
Similarly, Acharya has also claimed to be chief minister of the province.
“I claimed the CM post as I can help better for the development and prosperity of Province No. 1,” he said, “The informal discussions are being held in the party.”
The provincial assembly will be formed by the elections slated to be held on November 26 and December 7. The party securing a majority in the provincial assembly will elect the CM from the members of province assembly.
The leftist alliance has become stronger in this province following the alliance forged with CPN (Maoist Center) and UML. It is highly likely for the UML candidate to be elected as CM as CPN (Maoist Center) is weaker in the Province No. 1.
