The government Thursday has officially decided to conduct local election in Province No. 2 on September 18.

The Cabinet meeting held Thursday took the decision in this regard.

The meeting of ruling coalition parties with the agitating Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) held on Thursday afternoon at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Minister in Singha Durbar decided to postpone the election in Province No. 2. The top leaders also agreed to postpone the filing of the nominations by three days to facilitate RJP-N.

However, during the meeting with coalition governing parties and EC office-bearers, the Election Commission has clarified that the Phase II election cannot be deferred.

The agitating RJP-N, that had started protest programs including general strike in tarai districts since June 13, is still in limbo regarding poll participation.
